Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features and making relevant comparisons. You successfully highlighted the age groups with the highest and lowest participation rates. However, the summary is slightly hindered by inaccurate data reporting; for instance, you state that women had the highest activity in the 45-54 age group at 53.3%, but the data shows this is actually the 55-64 group. Additionally, the concluding sentence claims a 'gradual increase' and 'gradual fall' over time, which is an incorrect interpretation of a static bar chart representing a single year (2010). To improve, ensure your data extraction is precise and avoid describing trends over time when the data is cross-sectional.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organized into paragraphs, and there is a clear overall progression. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Overall', 'Regarding', and 'However', to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions are awkward, such as '65 and over had followed the similar patterns' which lacks a clear subject. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly when comparing male and female percentages across groups. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider range of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure that each sentence clearly relates to the previous one to improve the logical flow of your comparisons.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'accounted for', and 'age groups'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'female had doing' (should be 'females had the highest'), 'age gap' (used incorrectly for age group), and 'male had lowest percentage' (should be 'men had the lowest'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your report. To improve, focus on using nouns and adjectives correctly when describing statistics and avoid repetitive phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('female had doing', 'men and women had regular physical activity... had followed') and article usage ('the age group 65 and over'). Some sentences are poorly constructed, making them difficult to parse, such as 'the biggest proportion of female had 52.5% than male 39.5%'. While these errors do not completely obscure meaning, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on mastering basic sentence construction and ensuring consistent verb tenses when describing data.
