The bar chart below shows the percentage of Australian men and women in different age groups who did regular physical activity in 2010.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The bar chart compares Australian men and women from six different age groups who partook in regular physical activity in 2010. Overall, women are more or equally involved in physical activities than men across five diffeent age groups.

In four different age groups women's participation outnumber the men's. This is reflected in the data for the age range of 25-34 where the male participation amount is 42.2% compared to the female's 48.9%. Similarly, for age groups of 35-44, 45-54 and 55-64 similar patterns are observed with the 45-54 age group boasting the highest female participation of 53.3%. In contrast, the highest male participation can be seen in the age range of 15-24 with a rate of 52.8%, which is also the highest across all data.

In addtion, the age group of 15-24 is the only age range where the males outnumber the females. The 65 and over age range shows an almost equal participation between men and women of 46.6 and 47.1 respectively.
