Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response effectively addresses the task by summarizing the main features of the bar chart. You have successfully identified the key trend—that women generally participated in more physical activity than men—and highlighted the exception in the 15-24 age group. The data is well-selected, and you have made relevant comparisons across the age categories. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are described with complete accuracy; for instance, you mentioned that men over 65 engage in 'daily' physical activities, but the chart only specifies 'regular' physical activity. Overall, the report is clear and covers all requirements of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs that follow a chronological age progression. The use of cohesive devices such as 'whereas,' 'additionally,' and 'on the other hand' helps to guide the reader through the comparisons. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different age groups. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions between sentences could be more sophisticated to avoid a slightly mechanical feel. Overall, the information is presented in a coherent manner that is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe the data, including terms like 'proportion,' 'accounted for,' and 'engage in.' There is an attempt to use less common vocabulary, though some phrasing is slightly repetitive. You occasionally struggle with word choice, such as 'the figure reduced for the men,' where 'decreased' or 'fell' would be more natural. Additionally, there are minor errors in collocation, such as 'the portion reduced more,' which slightly impacts the precision of the report. Expanding your repertoire of synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' will help improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'Australian male and female' (should be 'males and females'), '15 to 24 age group was the only category, where men seems' (should be 'men seemed'), and 'the female of 35 to 44 age group' (should be 'females in the 35-44 age group'). These errors occur frequently but do not impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of plural nouns when referring to demographic groups.
