Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to complete the task as it is unfinished and cuts off abruptly in the final paragraph. While you identify some key features, the lack of a complete overview and the failure to report on all age groups significantly impacts the score. The data reporting is inconsistent, and the summary is incomplete. To improve, ensure you cover all categories presented in the chart and provide a clear, concise overview of the main trends. The current response lacks a concluding synthesis of the data, which is essential for a Task 1 response. You must manage your time effectively to ensure the entire report is written.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is hindered by the incomplete nature of the text. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In general' and 'Moreover', but they are sometimes used mechanically or with errors. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when comparing age groups. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words to connect your comparisons more fluidly. Ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus and that the transition between sentences is logical. The abrupt ending severely disrupts the overall coherence of the piece.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You rely on basic phrases like 'involved in physical training' and 'percentage'. There are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as '42 cent' instead of '42 percent' and 'pere' which is incomplete. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'remained stable'. Avoid repeating the same sentence structures and vocabulary throughout the report. Proofreading for spelling errors is essential to ensure your meaning is clear to the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Examples include 'by 2010' (should be 'in 2010'), 'fro to years males were 43.1', and incomplete sentences at the end of the text. Punctuation is also inconsistent. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions when describing data. Ensure that every sentence is complete and grammatically sound. Practicing the construction of complex sentences will help you demonstrate a wider range of grammatical control.
