Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the chart and makes relevant comparisons. You successfully identified the peak participation for women (45-54) and the contrast with men in the 15-24 age group. However, the overview is slightly confusingly phrased, and some data points are presented in a list-like fashion rather than being fully integrated into a comparative analysis. To reach a higher band, ensure that the overview clearly highlights the most significant trends rather than just listing specific groups. The comparison between genders is generally clear, but the structure of the sentences could be more sophisticated to better highlight the relationships between the data sets.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organized into paragraphs, but the flow between sentences is often disjointed. Phrases like 'then the most age group for men' are grammatically unclear and disrupt the logical progression of the text. While you use some cohesive devices like 'similarly' and 'however', the referencing is occasionally weak, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison. Improving the use of transition signals and ensuring that each sentence clearly links to the previous one would significantly improve the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is somewhat repetitive and lacks precision. You rely heavily on basic structures like 'the percentage for women was' and 'the figure for men'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'participated regular physical activity' (should be 'participated in') and 'the most age group'. To improve, try to vary your verbs and nouns—for example, using 'proportion', 'rate', or 'engagement' instead of repeating 'percentage' and 'figure'. Expanding your range of descriptive adjectives and adverbs would also help convey the data more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include missing prepositions ('participated regular physical activity'), incorrect word order ('the difference between became larger'), and fragmented sentences ('then the most age group for men. except among those aged for 15 to 24'). While you attempt some complex structures, they are often marred by errors in subject-verb agreement and tense usage. Focusing on basic sentence construction and ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and verb will help you achieve a higher score.
