Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main features of the chart, such as the peak age groups for both genders and the general trends. However, the response lacks precision in reporting data. For example, you mention 'the adult group' without specifying the age range, and you state that the female ratio 'increased on top level', which is vague. Additionally, there are some inaccuracies in data interpretation; for instance, you state the 15-24 age group for men was 52%, whereas the chart shows it is slightly lower. To reach a higher band, ensure all data points are clearly linked to their respective categories and avoid imprecise descriptions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Further', and 'However'. However, the flow is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'In the second group', which does not explicitly name the age range. The transition between sentences could be smoother to improve the overall progression of ideas. While the paragraphing is appropriate for the task, the use of linking words could be more varied and natural to enhance the readability of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the main points, using terms like 'illustrates', 'ratio', and 'categories'. However, there are some awkward collocations and word choice errors, such as 'females were dominated than males' (should be 'females were more dominant than males') and 'increased on top level'. These errors do not impede communication, but they limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on using more accurate terminology for describing trends, such as 'peaked at', 'fluctuated', or 'remained consistent', rather than relying on repetitive or slightly inaccurate phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including missing articles ('the' graph), incorrect verb forms ('male ratio was drastically decrease'), and issues with subject-verb agreement. While these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede the reader's understanding of the data. To achieve a higher band, you should work on ensuring consistent verb tense usage and refining your control over sentence construction to reduce the frequency of these minor errors. Pay closer attention to pluralisation and the correct use of prepositions.
