Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the bar chart and makes relevant comparisons between genders and age groups. You have successfully identified key trends, such as the peak in female participation in the 45-54 age group and the general fluctuations in male participation. However, the overview is somewhat weak; stating there was a 'continuously fluctuation' in males is not entirely accurate based on the data, and the comparison between genders could be more clearly synthesised. To improve, ensure your overview highlights the most significant overall trends rather than just describing individual fluctuations. You have included sufficient data points to support your summary, meeting the requirements for this task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Regarding', 'Meanwhile', and 'By contrast' to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the final paragraph where the sequence of age groups is slightly disjointed. The transition between the overview and the body paragraphs could be smoother. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that the progression of ideas within paragraphs is more fluid and less list-like.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'accounted for', 'noticeable rise', and 'sharp fall'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'how many proportion', 'inclined compared to', and 'minimal decreased'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on learning the correct collocations for statistical reporting (e.g., 'a slight decrease' instead of 'a minimal decreased') and ensure you use nouns and adjectives correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'did daily exercises according five various age group' (missing prepositions and incorrect pluralisation), 'the figure of men and women were' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'highest amount of female was done physical activity' (passive voice misuse). While these errors rarely prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency of the response. Focusing on basic sentence construction and subject-verb agreement will help improve your accuracy significantly.
