Student answer (Band 6.0)
The given bar chart illustrates the proportion of Australian male and female in various age groups who did usually physical activity in 2010.
Overall, the highest percentage of male was in an age group of 15 to 24 while, the least proportion was in term of 35 to 44. Whereas, the highest ration of female was in an age group of 45 to 54 while the lowest proportion of female was recorded in a context of 65 and over.
Looking at the details of men an age group of 15 to 24 contained highest percentage of male about 52.8 while, it declined to 46.7 in an age group of 65 and over. It's crystal clear that age group of 55 to 64 kept 45.1 ratio and then it dropped to 43.1 in and age group of 45 to 54. Surely, in a term of 25 to 34 it only remained about 42.2 percentage and it decreased to 39.5 in a context of 35 to 44.
Regarding to female, an age group of 45 to 54 indicated the largest proportion about 53.3 percent while, it declined to 53 percent in a term of 55 to 64. Clearly, female those are 35 to 44 years old represented 52.5 percent however, it dropped to 48.9 ration in a context of 25 to 34. No doubt, and age group of 15 to 24 sustained 47.7 proportion by contrast, it decreased to 47.1 ratio in a term of 65 and over.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features and making relevant comparisons. You successfully highlighted the highest and lowest percentages for both genders. However, the report is somewhat mechanical, as it lists data points sequentially rather than synthesising the information into a more analytical summary. While you have included the key data, the overall structure could be improved by grouping the age categories more effectively to highlight trends rather than just listing figures. The overview provided in the second paragraph is accurate, but the subsequent paragraphs rely heavily on listing numbers without enough focus on the broader trends or significant differences between the age groups.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organised into paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices like 'Whereas', 'Looking at the details', and 'By contrast' to link ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes repetitive or slightly unnatural, such as the frequent use of 'in a context of' or 'in a term of'. The progression of ideas is clear, but the flow between sentences could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the data for men and women, which helps the reader follow the information easily.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'illustrates', 'sustained', and 'represented'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'did usually physical activity' (should be 'participated in regular physical activity') and 'in a context of' or 'in a term of', which are used incorrectly to refer to age groups. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. Expanding your range of reporting verbs and avoiding repetitive phrasing would help improve your score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the highest percentage of male' should be 'the highest percentage of males') and prepositions ('in a term of' is incorrect). There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and word forms, such as 'female those are 35 to 44 years old' (should be 'females who are...'). These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding the data. To improve, focus on consistent use of plural forms and more accurate prepositional phrases.
