The bar chart below shows the percentage of Australian men and women in different age groups who did regular physical activity in 2010.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The presented column chart indicates Australian men and women doing regular physical activity varied from age 15 to 65 and over in 2010. The data is calibrated in percentage.

Overall, women had higher rate of physical activity than men in almost all age groups, except for those aged 15 to 24. The figure for women remain relatively stable, while percentage for men fluctuate considerably.

Among people aged 15 to 24, men have higher participation than women, with 52.8% compared with 47.7%. However this pattern change in next age groups. For those aged 25 to 34, the figure for 42.2% for men and 48.9% for women. The difference become even larger in 35 to 44 aged groups, with 39.5% of men compared with 52.5% of women.

Among older aged groups, women participation remined above 50% from aged 45 to 64, reaching a peak of 53.3% for the 45–54 group. The figure then decreased slightly to 53.0% among 55–64-year-olds. In comparison, the rate for men rose gradually from 43.1% to 45.1% and then to 46.7%. Finally, among people aged 65 and over, the rates for men and women were almost identical, at 46.7% and 47.1%, respectively.
