Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response attempts to summarise the main features of the bar chart, providing data points for various age groups such as 'From 15 to 24, the percentage of women was higher in physical activity approximately 52.8%'. However, there are several limitations. Firstly, the student has completely failed to complete the response, cutting off mid-sentence at 'In the end, the age group o', leading to an incomplete overview and missing data for older cohorts. Furthermore, the length requirement is NOT met, as the response contains only 131 words, falling short of the 150-word minimum. Because of the incomplete task completion and under-length penalty, Task Achievement cannot exceed Band 4.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The text attempts a basic overarching structure with an introduction and body paragraphs detailing age brackets. However, the organisation is severely disrupted by the abrupt truncation at the end of the text. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and repetitively, such as 'while the men had' and 'Furthermore'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and paragraphing is underdeveloped due to the missing conclusion. Despite these flaws, the progression is somewhat visible in the earlier sections, allowing for a Band 5.0 rating for structural attempt.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, relying heavily on phrases like 'percentage of women', 'physical activity', and 'men had'. There are notable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'female in physical activity experienced upward trend' (missing articles and unnatural phrasing) and 'grater' (spelling error for 'greater'). The student attempts some less common vocabulary, but inaccurate usage and limited range restrict the score to Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent errors in article usage, missing prepositions, and faulty verb forms, such as 'the percentage of female in physical activity experienced upward trend' and 'Female experienced rose 53.3%'. Punctuation is generally present, but the abrupt ending of the text leaves an incomplete sentence structure. Errors frequently cause some difficulty for the reader, aligning the grammar with Band 5.0.
