Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response makes a clear attempt to summarise the data, identifying peak activities for both genders (53.3% for females aged 45-54 and 52.8% for males aged 15-24) and attempting some overall trends. However, the analysis of trends contains inaccuracies based on the chart provided: the statement that male participation steadily decreases as they get older is not fully supported, as male participation actually rises in the older age groups (reaching 46.7% in the 65 and over group). Furthermore, the response is under-length at 147 words, failing to meet the 150-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts task achievement. Band score: 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay has some basic organisation, opening with an introductory sentence and attempting to group information by gender and age categories. However, the paragraphing is poor, with sentences broken awkwardly across multiple lines, and the conclusion is rushed and fragmented ('after Thier peak it decreases little bit'). Cohesive devices are minimal and basic, such as 'On the other hand' and 'In conclusion', but referencing and logical progression are frequently faulty. There is no clear overall progression due to the disjointed structure and erratic sentence breaks. Band score: 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary for addressing the task, attempting some topic-specific terms such as 'regular physical activity', 'percentage', and 'peak'. However, there are notable spelling errors ('summerizes', 'Thier') and awkward word choices ('males are tend to be engaged in'). Less common lexical items are attempted but lack precision and accuracy. The range of vocabulary remains limited and repetitive throughout the short response. Band score: 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The text displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but grammatical control is weak. There are noticeable errors in structure, such as 'males are tend to be engaged in. Physical activities' (where a full stop is incorrectly placed inside a sentence) and 'as women gets older' (subject-verb agreement error). Punctuation and capitalization are also erratic, with random capitalisation in the middle of sentences ('Age group', 'Physical'). Errors occur frequently and occasionally impede smooth reading. Band score: 5.0.
