The bar chart below shows the percentage of Australian men and women in different age groups who did regular physical activity in 2010.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.5)

The given bar chart illustrates the proportion of Australian men and women across six age categories who engaged in regular physical activity in the year 2010.

Overall, women were generally more active than men across most age brackets with the exception of the youngest demographic. Additionally, male participation peaked in early adulthood before declining, whereas female participation showed a steady increase through middle age before dropping slightly in older adulthood.

Among the youngestr group (15 to 24), men recorded their highest level of physical activity at 52.8%,outperforming women , who stood at 47%. However, male involment dropped sharply in the 25 to 34 age group at 42.2% and hit its lowest point among those aged 35 to 44 at 39.5%. Thereafter,male patricipation increase gradually to 43.1% and 45.1% (55-64age group),reaching 46.7% for those aged 65 and over.

In contrast,female participation experienced an upwaed trend from 48.9% among 25to 34 year olds to a peak at 53.3% in the 45 to 54 category. The proportion of active women remained high at 53.0% for the age 55 to 64 demographic. In the oldest category 65 over female participation fell to 47.1%,bringing it almost level with the male rate of 46.7%.
