Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers all the main parts of the task and attempts to make relevant comparisons, such as noting that males dominated in the 15 to 24 age bracket while females were more active in the 25 to 64 groups. However, there are some inaccuracies in reporting the data. For instance, the text states that 'the percentage of males was almost steady from 42.2% to 45.1%', whereas the chart actually shows fluctuation, including a dip to 39.5% for the 35 to 44 age group. Furthermore, referring to physical activity as 'daily work out' misinterprets the chart's focus on 'regular physical activity'. The overview is present but could be more precise.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is divided into paragraphs, which helps structure the response, and there is a clear attempt at an overall summary in the second paragraph. However, the logical progression is sometimes hindered by awkward referencing and cohesion. For example, expressions like 'the male dominated' and 'almost in both groups' at the end of the final paragraph are unclear and disrupt the flow. Cohesive devices are used, but sometimes inaccurately or mechanically, leading to a response that lacks smooth transitions between ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, but contains noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'having different age groups' instead of 'across different age groups', 'percenatge' (spelling error), and 'work out' instead of 'physical activity'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary like 'dominated' and 'steady', but inaccuracies in form and usage persist, which occasionally causes confusion for the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as using 'While from 25 to 64 age groups...' and relative clauses. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ('the male dominated', 'older males and females was almost same'), incorrect prepositions ('in male, having age range'), and subject-verb agreement issues ('the percenatge of female... was higher then the males'). These errors can cause some difficulty for the reader, though they do not completely impede communication.
