The bar chart below shows the percentage of Australian men and women in different age groups who did regular physical activity in 2010.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The bar chart illustrates the percentages of Australian men and women in six different age groups who engaged in regular physical activity in 2010.

Overall, women had higher participation rates than men in all age groups except those aged 15–24. The highest proportion of physically active women was in the 45–54 age group, while the lowest proportion of active men was recorded among those aged 35–44.

Among people aged 15–24, 52.8% of men participated in regular physical activity, compared with 47.7% of women. In the 25–34 age group, the figure for men fell to 42.2%, whereas the percentage for women increased to 48.9%. A similar pattern was seen among those aged 35–44, with 39.5% of men exercising regularly, compared with 52.5% of women.

In the older age groups, male participation increased gradually, reaching 43.1% among those aged 45–54, 45.1% among those aged 55–64 and 46.7% among people aged 65 and over. By contrast, the corresponding figures for women were 53.3%, 53% and 47.1%, respectively.
