Student answer (Band 5.0)
The bar graph illustrates that the number of male and female individuals in many age classes in Australia frequently did exercises in 2010.

Mostly, young boys are motivated towards physical exercises and took active part in outdoor games. In other groups, women are more motivated towards doing youga, joining gym classes and running in parathon. While, approximately similar interest found in people of age greater than 65. This data shows that women are more keen and carefull about their physical health and well being than men as soon as they get maturity to their remaining life. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The student attempts to summarise the main features of the chart, noting the differences between genders across age groups. However, the response falls slightly short of the 150-word minimum requirement, containing only 148 words, which attracts a penalty under Task Achievement. Furthermore, the analysis contains unsupported generalisations and speculation, such as claiming that women engage in activities like 'youga', 'gym classes and running in parathon' and concluding that fitness habits directly increase life span, which is outside the provided data. While some comparisons are made, the overall response lacks the precise reporting of data expected for a Band 6.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text is arranged into three brief paragraphs, attempting an introduction, body, and conclusion. However, the logical progression is hindered by informal transitions and weak paragraphing. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or repetitively, such as 'In youngsters, there were...' and 'In this way women life span also increases...'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the overall structural flow feels disjointed rather than logically sequenced, reflecting Band 5 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The lexical range is limited and inadequate for a higher band. The student uses basic vocabulary and makes several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'youga' (yoga), 'parathon' (marathon), 'carefull' (careful), and 'maturity' (maturity). Phrases like 'frequently did exercises' and 'male individuals more in percentage' lack natural collocation and precision. These errors occasionally cause difficulty or distraction for the reader, aligning with a Band 5 score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student displays a limited range of sentence structures, with frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. Examples of awkward phrasing and structural inaccuracy include 'there were male individuals more in percentage than female individuals' and 'mostly female population doing physical activities'. Subject-verb agreement and preposition usage are also problematic throughout the response. These frequent errors impede smooth reading and place the grammar firmly in the Band 5 category.
