Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The student attempts to cover the main features of the chart, providing an overview and selecting data points such as the 15 to 24 age group where males dominated (52.8% vs 47.7%), and the 65 and over age group where rates were nearly equal. However, there are some inaccuracies and omissions in reporting specific data. For instance, the student states that women had above 50% in three other age groups, but for 25 to 34 it was 48.9%, which is below 50%. The overview is somewhat simplistic ('female are high percentage to doing physical activities'). The response addresses the task and makes relevant comparisons, but the data reporting contains minor errors and lacks full precision. This aligns with Band 5.5 to 6.0 descriptors, comfortably fitting Band 6.0 for identifying the main trends despite inaccuracies.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response is arranged into four paragraphs, attempting an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs detailing specific age groups. However, the progression is disjointed and cohesion is frequently mechanical or faulty. Phrases like 'In other three age group' and 'which more than male and this pattern shows in other two age group that leading women in activies' reveal awkward transitions and unclear referencing. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion lacks smooth logical connectors, causing the flow to stutter. These features are characteristic of Band 5.0, where organisation is visible but cohesion is inadequate and repetitive.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, relying heavily on terms like 'proportion', 'percentage', 'men', 'women', and 'physical activity'. There are several word-choice and collocation errors, such as 'regulary physical activity' (regularly), 'high percentage to doing', and 'leading women in activies'. Less common lexical items are attempted ('dominated'), but inaccuracies in word formation and spelling ('regulary', 'activies') are noticeable. The range is minimally adequate for the task, which corresponds to a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures. Simple sentences predominate, and attempts at complex or relative clauses are frequently faulty or incomplete, such as 'which more than male and this pattern shows in other two age group that leading women in activies'. There are frequent errors in verb forms, prepositions, and subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'female are high percentage', 'male above from women', 'women leads'). These grammatical flaws cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the text from reaching a higher band, placing it firmly at Band 5.0.
