Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response attempts to summarise the main features of the chart, noting that men aged 15-24 had the highest participation rate among males and that women generally had higher rates in older age brackets. However, the task achievement is significantly limited by numerous inaccuracies, confusing phrasing, and contradictions (for instance, stating that 'at the age of 45 to 54 womens are also do more work at any age in 2010 women do more physical activities as compare to women'). The overview is poorly articulated and repetitive. Furthermore, data is missing for several age groups, and comparisons are clumsy and confusing. This falls under Band 4 as it responds to the task only minimally and lacks a fully developed, coherent summary of the data.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response lacks a clear overall structure and proper paragraphing, presented instead as a single block of repetitive sentences. Cohesive devices are either missing, misused, or overly simplistic, such as repetitive use of 'As we see', 'Morever,In', and 'But'. There is no logical progression of ideas; instead, sentences jump haphazardly between different age groups with contradictory statements ('as compare to women. But only at the age of 15 to 25 men do more physical activities then womens'). Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the argument. This performance aligns with Band 4 descriptors, where information and ideas are not arranged coherently and progression is lacking.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.0
The vocabulary used throughout the response is extremely basic, repetitive, and restricted (e.g., repeating 'physical activities', 'age', 'women', 'men', 'graph'). There are numerous spelling errors and awkward word formations, such as 'physicai', 'Morever', and 'womens'. The student attempts basic descriptive vocabulary but lacks the range and precision required for Task 1 Academic, failing to use functional vocabulary for trends or comparisons (e.g., proportion, percentage, participation, demographic). Word choice errors frequently strain comprehension. This corresponds to Band 4, where vocabulary is basic, repetitive, and errors impede smooth reading.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The grammatical range is severely limited, relying almost entirely on faulty simple and attempted complex sentences with persistent, severe errors. There is a complete lack of control over basic subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'womens are also do', 'men ... do 52.8 percent ... but women do ... as compare to men doing') and tense consistency. Punctuation and capitalisation rules are frequently ignored, such as missing spaces after periods ('2010.As', 'Morever,In', 'workout.But'). Complex structures attempted by the student are consistently inaccurate and distort meaning. This level of grammatical control matches Band 4, where errors are frequent and often distort meaning.
