Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response makes an attempt to summarise the main features of the chart, correctly noting some data points such as the male figure for 15 to 24 at 52.8 percent. However, the overview contains factual inaccuracies; for instance, the writer claims that women's participation increased at every age group, which is incorrect (it drops at 65 and over). Furthermore, the text contains several confused descriptions, such as stating that the 45-54 age group peaked the highest proportion for women, and misreading trends. Crucially, the response falls short of the 150-word minimum requirement, containing only 134 words. This under-length impacts the overall development and completeness of the task. Because of the inaccuracies in selecting features and the failure to meet the minimum word count, this performance falls into band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response begins with a standard introduction and attempts to organise information chronologically by age group. However, the progression quickly breaks down due to confusing sentence structures and abrupt stopping at the end (the response trails off mid-sentence at 'witnessed the highest proportion declined participate iat 39.5 percentage'). Paragraphing is poorly handled, with the main body compressed into a single, dense block of text that lacks clear separation of ideas. Cohesive devices are used in a basic or mechanical manner, such as 'Following to the', 'meanwhile', and 'Moreover', some of which are grammatically awkward or unnatural. Referencing and logical transitions between sentences are frequently unclear, making the overall arrangement difficult to follow. These issues align with a band 5.0 level.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive, relying on terms like 'percentage', 'participation', 'proportion', 'men', and 'women'. There are several noticeable lexical and collocational errors throughout the text, such as 'women participation' instead of 'women's participation', 'fitness doing fall', and 'proportion declined participate'. Some words are misused or combined awkwardly, which places some strain on the reader. While the writer attempts to use task-specific vocabulary, the range is limited and imprecise, and spelling errors or awkward word choices occur frequently. This performance is consistent with the descriptors for band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasings, such as 'age group peaked the highest proportion, who did daily exercise', 'male participation in regular fitness doing fall', and the incomplete concluding sentence. Punctuation and spacing issues are also present, notably missing spaces after commas (e.g., 'Overall,it is clear', 'group, and 45-54'). These frequent errors and faulty complex structures cause difficulty for the reader and prevent the text from achieving a higher score, placing it firmly at band 5.0.
