Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The student successfully covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features of the chart and making appropriate comparisons between age groups and genders. The overview is partially stated, noting that men were highest in the 15-24 group while women showed higher participation across several older brackets, though the phrasing is slightly clunky. Specific data points are accurately reported, such as mentioning 52.8% for males and 47.7% for females in the youngest bracket, and correctly identifying 53.3% as the peak for women in the 45-54 age group. However, some minor inaccuracies occur in the phrasing of comparisons and data reporting, placing it at a Band 6.5 level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response is organized logically into an introduction, an overview paragraph, and body paragraphs detailing the specific age brackets. Cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'Looking at the figure', 'Followed by', and 'Turning to' are used to guide the reader through the data, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different sections of the chart. Referencing is mostly clear, though occasional awkward phrasing affects the smooth progression of ideas. This performance aligns well with the Band 6 descriptor.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms like 'percentage', 'proportion', 'participants', and 'age group'. However, there are noticeable spelling errors ('regural' instead of regular, 'intrested' instead of interested) and word choice inaccuracies (e.g., 'Older adult (55-64), participating in regular activity by male...'). Less common vocabulary is attempted with mixed success. Because spelling and word-form errors do not impede overall communication, the vocabulary warrants a Band 6 score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating comparative structures such as 'while women made up 48.9%' and 'which is 10.2% higher then male participants'. However, there are several grammatical errors and awkward prepositional uses, such as 'among 15-24 years', 'age group of 15 to 24- 52.8% of male are intrested', and 'higher then' (instead of 'than'). Punctuation is also occasionally inconsistent with hyphens and dashes. Since these errors rarely impede communication but persist throughout, a Band 6 is appropriate.
