Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The student attempts to address the prompt by summarising the main features of the bar chart, noting that females are generally more active than males. However, the response suffers from significant inaccuracies and confusion in reporting specific data. For instance, the student states that the 15 to 24 age group 'number of males are increased' and misinterprets comparisons across age brackets. While an overall trend is identified, the data selection is flawed and poorly supported. Key comparisons, such as the peak activity for young males versus middle-aged females, are awkwardly phrased and lack precision. According to Band 5 descriptors, the task is addressed only partially, and the response lacks clear development of main trends, leading to confusion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into short, disjointed paragraphs that fail to establish a clear logical progression. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or incorrectly, such as the transition 'While, age group of 45 to 54 females...' and 'Althrough'. Paragraphing is not used effectively to group related ideas, and referencing between sentences is often unclear, as seen in the final paragraph ('Las remaiining line male are less then females'). This reflects Band 5 descriptors, where there is some organization and paragraphing attempted, but overall progression is lacking, and cohesive devices are inadequate or inaccurate.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The lexical range is quite limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms ('percentage', 'age group', 'active', 'males', 'females'). There are numerous word-choice and collocation errors, such as 'number of males are increased', 'highly active then males', and 'at least same number of percentage'. Spelling errors also occur, such as 'Althrough' and 'remaiining'. These errors occasionally impede communication and require the reader to guess the intended meaning. This aligns well with Band 5, where vocabulary is minimally adequate for the task, but noticeable errors cause difficulty for the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but most complex attempts are severely flawed by grammatical errors. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues like 'the age group of 15 to 24 number of males are increased' and structural fragments like 'Las remaiining line male are less then females.' Punctuation and preposition use are also frequently inaccurate ('in physical activity and females are less involved'). Due to the high frequency of grammatical errors that regularly cause difficulty for the reader, the response fits the Band 5 descriptors for grammar.
