Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

The student provides a clear and well-structured overview of the main features shown in the bar chart. All age groups and both genders are addressed effectively. The writer correctly identifies that females generally had higher rates of physical activity in most age groups, while highlighting notable exceptions such as the 15 to 24 age bracket where males recorded a higher rate. Data points are accurately reported, such as for the 15 to 24 group (52.8% for males and 47.7% for females) and the 45 to 54 group (53.3% for females compared to 43.1% for males). The response fully satisfies the requirements of Task 1 by selecting relevant information and making appropriate comparisons throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5

The response is logically organized with a clear overall progression. It begins with a standard introductory sentence, followed by a concise overview paragraph that captures the primary trends. Body paragraphs are structured logically, grouping specific age comparisons effectively. Cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'Similarly', and 'Finally' are used appropriately to guide the reader through the data without being mechanical. Paragraphing is used sufficiently, with each paragraph serving a distinct and clear function in presenting the data.

Lexical Resource: Band 7.0

The student demonstrates a sufficient and appropriate range of vocabulary for an Academic Task 1 response. Words and phrases such as 'illustrates', 'particularly high percentage', 'participated in regular physical activity', and 'relatively similar' are deployed accurately and naturally. There is good use of reporting language and comparative structures. Minor inaccuracies are absent, and the vocabulary choice effectively conveys statistical information with precision and clarity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.5

The response displays a wide variety of sentence structures, including complex sentences used to compare statistics across genders and age groups (e.g., 'In contrast, among people aged 45 to 54, females were considerably more active than males...'). The majority of sentences are error-free, showing good control of grammar and punctuation. Minor slips are virtually absent, and the grammatical accuracy allows the reader to follow the complex data comparisons smoothly and without any hindrance.
