Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by attempting to summarize the main features and trends of the bar chart, such as the peak participation rates across different age groups for both genders. However, the information is presented as a mechanical list of figures rather than a synthesized overview, leading to an under-developed approach. While data points like the 52.8 percent for the 15 to 24 age group are included, key comparisons are not fully articulated, and the overall summary is very brief and limited. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to select and contrast the overarching trends rather than listing almost every individual data point without clear analytical grouping.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some basic organization with an introduction, body sentences, and a short conclusion, but the text lacks a clear overall progression. The mechanical listing of data points creates a choppy flow, making it difficult to follow a logical development. Cohesive devices are used repetitively and sometimes inaccurately, such as 'on the other hand female participate' and 'Moreover', which are poorly managed within the sentences. Paragraphing is attempted, but the body of the response is clumped together into one block rather than structured effectively by trends or categories. Improving logical sequencing and using a wider, more accurate range of transition words would enhance the overall structure.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms such as 'percentage', 'age group', 'physical activities', and 'male and female'. There are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'his physical activities', 'the female raised high', and 'remained equel in physicak activities' (which also contains a spelling error). These errors sometimes make it difficult for the reader to follow the precise meaning. To achieve a higher score, the student should expand their range of vocabulary by incorporating less common lexical items and synonyms for reporting data, such as 'proportion', 'fluctuated', 'rose', or 'experienced a peak'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response relies on a very limited range of grammatical structures, mostly attempting simple sentences with frequent errors when trying to form more complex ones. There are numerous grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('female participate', 'the female raised'), missing prepositions ('fell 42.2%', 'fall in physical activities'), incorrect pronoun usage ('his physical activities' referring to the chart), and awkward phrasing. Punctuation is also problematic, with missing spaces around commas and periods. These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and prevent the text from demonstrating good control over basic structures.
