Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, stopping short at only 133 words. While the writer attempts to select and report main features from the bar chart, such as comparing the 15 to 24 age group and mentioning lows in the 35 to 44 age group, the response is incomplete. It tails off mid-sentence at the end, meaning parts of the chart are left unaddressed and the overview of trends is underdeveloped. This partial treatment and failure to complete the task severely limits the score for this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is an attempt to organise the response with introductory and body sentences, alongside some transitional markers like 'Overall' and 'Subsequently'. However, the overall progression is disrupted by mechanical and faulty cohesive devices, such as 'Where as it is clear that' and run-on sentences. Paragraphing is fragmented, with single sentences or broken thoughts forming separate lines rather than cohesive blocks. Referencing between pronouns like 'they' and 'their' is also unclear at times, making the flow difficult for the reader to follow smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, relying on phrases like 'ratio of Australian men and women', 'physical exercise regularly', and 'doing physical activity'. There are noticeable word choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'teenagers boys', 'female of the equal age', 'the lowst', and 'figure of feminine'. Spelling errors and incorrect word forms further limit the range, meaning the lexical resource remains restricted and occasionally causes strain for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer uses a very limited range of sentence structures, with attempts at complex sentences resulting in frequent grammatical errors. There are frequent issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'the percentage of teenagers boys ... is greater', missing articles, incorrect prepositions ('in the age from 25', 'as compare tp'), and punctuation faults. These frequent errors in basic and attempted structures cause difficulty for the reader and prevent the response from achieving a higher score.
