Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the chart by reporting data points across the various age groups for both men and women. However, the data presentation tends to rely on a mechanical listing of individual figures rather than effectively synthesizing and comparing the overarching trends. While an attempt at an overview is made at the very end of the text, it is limited and somewhat inaccurate regarding the male trend across all age groups. As a result, the task is only partially addressed, and key comparisons lack full extension and balanced development. To improve, the writer should group data more strategically and formulate a clearer, more comprehensive overview right at the beginning.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response lacks clear overall progression and is structured as a single block of text with no paragraph breaks, making it difficult to follow the logical flow of information. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, or inaccurate, with transitions relying heavily on repetitive phrasing such as 'In the age of' at the beginning of nearly every sentence. Pronoun referencing and signposting are weak, failing to guide the reader smoothly through the comparisons between male and female data points. To move up, the writer must organize the response into distinct paragraphs, such as an introduction with an overview followed by body paragraphs grouped by logical categories or age ranges, and use a wider variety of cohesive markers.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms and direct lifting from the prompt. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations, such as 'male do the regular activity' instead of 'men engaged in regular physical activity' and 'suddenly fall down' rather than 'decreased sharply'. Word choices are often imprecise, which causes some difficulty for the reader when interpreting the data. To enhance lexical resource, the student needs to incorporate a wider range of vocabulary related to data trends and statistics, utilizing synonyms and less common functional phrases rather than repeating the same simple verbs and nouns.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response features a very limited range of sentence structures, primarily relying on simple sentences with frequent structural errors. There are persistent mistakes in verb forms, tense usage, subject-verb agreement, and articles, such as 'In this graph shows', 'the male do', and 'mens activity'. Attempts at complex structures are often faulty, and punctuation is weak, particularly with the lack of sentence boundary control. Frequent grammatical errors cause difficulty and strain for the reader. To improve, the writer must focus on foundational grammar rules, ensuring correct subject-verb agreement, accurate verb tenses for data description, and the proper use of articles and plurals.
