Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all key features of the prompt by presenting an overview and reporting specific data for men and women across the different age groups. It accurately notes that women recorded higher participation rates in most age groups, whereas men only led in the 15 to 24 category, with both genders converging in the oldest bracket. However, some parts of the response are more fully developed than others, and a few details lean towards a mechanical listing of figures rather than fully synthesized comparisons, which prevents the score from reaching a higher level. Overall, the selection and reporting of main features are adequately handled to meet the requirements of this band.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, an overview paragraph, and subsequent body paragraphs following a logical age progression. Cohesive devices are used to link ideas, such as 'while', 'in addition', and 'after the 65 and over', but referencing and transitions can occasionally feel slightly mechanical or repetitive in structure. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to structure the information, though smoother integration of data points would enhance the overall flow and progression of the writing. These features place the cohesion securely within this band.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
An adequate range of vocabulary is employed for the task, successfully attempting less common items and descriptive verbs such as 'dominated', 'surge', 'climed', and 'fell'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that reflect limitations in precision, such as 'phycial' instead of 'physical', 'climed' instead of 'climbed', and awkward phrasing like 'in teenager group' and 'reached at the peaked'. While these errors do not impede communication, they demonstrate some inconsistency in word form and collocation, keeping the lexical score at this level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms to compare data across the chart. There are several grammatical errors present, particularly with missing or incorrect articles ('in the most of the age groups', 'in teenager group', 'in age group of'), prepositions, and subject-verb agreement or tense consistency ('men leads', 'continued to dropped', 'men show a slightly increase'). Despite these errors, the structures used are varied enough to convey the intended meaning without causing major difficulty for the reader, which aligns well with the descriptors for this band level.
