Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 150 words, stopping abruptly at only 122 words. Furthermore, the content fails to properly cover all parts of the task. While the student attempts an overview and mentions some data points, the summary is incomplete and trails off before finishing the description of the chart. The overview contains major inaccuracies and confusion regarding the data, such as the claim that physical activity among teenage boys is 'more than male' or that females generally exceeded males at six age groups when the data clearly shows fluctuations where males and females alternate. Ideas are limited, under-developed, and the response stops mid-sentence, preventing any proper development of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response presents some basic organization with an introductory sentence and an attempt at an overview paragraph, but overall progression is lacking. Although basic cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'At the age of', and 'In contrast' are attempted, referencing and cohesion are faulty and mechanical. The breakdown of paragraph structure is evident as the text cuts off prematurely in the middle of a sentence. Paragraphing is not used effectively to group related information, and the confusing logical flow between sentences makes the overall arrangement difficult to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, showing a limited range that is only minimally adequate for the task. There are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word formation that cause difficulty for the reader, such as 'considereable fallen' instead of 'considerable fall', 'percantage' instead of 'percentage', and 'significantaly' instead of 'significantly'. Phrasing such as 'physical things' and 'physical activites' demonstrates a restricted vocabulary. While some attempts are made to use less common words, inaccurate spelling and incorrect word forms impede clear communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent errors when attempting more complex forms. There are numerous grammatical inaccuracies throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'the ratio of female who were doing physical things is more than the male', missing articles, and incorrect prepositions. Sentences often contain structural errors, such as 'In contrast, the a significantaly rise in the ratio', which distort the grammatical integrity. Punctuation and sentence completion are also problematic, highlighted by the incomplete sentence ending the text.
