Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by selecting and reporting the main features of the chart, including general trends and specific age-group data. An overview is provided, noting that male percentages started high and declined while female percentages fluctuated. However, some parts of the task are handled less fully than others. For example, there are a few minor inaccuracies and awkward interpretations in how the data is grouped and described, such as the phrasing regarding '25-40 aged men' which does not correspond directly to the chart categories. Despite these minor limitations, the key comparisons between genders and across age groups are adequately covered, satisfying the requirements for this level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response presents a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information and ideas are grouped effectively by paragraph, with an introductory sentence, an overview paragraph, and separate body paragraphs for male and female data respectively. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well to connect ideas, such as 'Overall,' 'In terms of man,' and 'On the other hand,' although some referencing and transitions feel slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to structure the response, ensuring that the reader can easily follow the progression from the general trends to the specific data points for each gender.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The lexical resource used is adequate for the task, providing a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe data trends, such as 'gradually declined,' 'dramatic decline,' and 'steadily inclined.' However, there are notable spelling errors and awkward word choices throughout the text, including 'precenatage' instead of percentage, 'Austrainlian' instead of Australian, 'staring' instead of starting, and 'activies' instead of activities. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they reflect a limited control of word formation and spelling, preventing the score from reaching a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as subordinate clauses with 'whereas' and 'while.' There are some errors in grammar, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('female from 15-24 held... whereas 48.9% had a age bracket'), missing plural forms or incorrect article usage ('a age bracket'), and awkward prepositional phrases. However, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to grasp the intended meaning of the statistical comparisons without significant difficulty.
