Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

The response successfully covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features, selecting appropriate data points, and making relevant comparisons across age groups. An overview is present, noting the contrasting trends between genders across the age categories and their convergence in the oldest bracket. Data points such as 52.8% for young males and the peak of 53.3% for women aged 45 to 54 are accurately cited and supported. While the overview contains some minor awkward phrasing, the ideas are extended and supported well throughout, reflecting a solid level of task achievement that highlights key patterns in the visual data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay presents a clear logical organization and progression throughout. Information is grouped sensibly into paragraphs, moving from an introductory overview into detailed body paragraphs that break down the data by age ranges. Cohesive devices such as 'By contrast', 'while that for male', and 'Notably' are used with reasonable flexibility to guide the reader through the comparisons. Although paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriate referencing is maintained, occasional mechanical transitions prevent the cohesion from achieving a higher level of fluency, keeping the response firmly within the expected parameters for this band.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'proportion', 'category', 'peaked', and 'narrowing the gap'. Less common vocabulary is attempted, such as 'dominate' and 'approxiamtely', but there are noticeable errors in word form and spelling, including 'male was dominate' instead of 'dominated', 'im' instead of 'in', 'recoreded' instead of 'recorded', 'sligtly' instead of 'slightly', and 'approxiamtely' instead of 'approximately'. These errors do not impede communication, but they reflect the limitations expected at this level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and comparative structures such as 'the percentage of male who performed physical activity was higher than female'. However, there are some grammar and punctuation errors present, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('both gender recorded' and 'both gender were') and missing articles ('in 15 to 24 years age group'). These errors occur throughout the text but rarely impede communication, demonstrating the typical control associated with a mix of simple and complex structures containing occasional lapses.
