Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by providing an overview and selecting key features from the chart, such as the highest and lowest percentages across age groups. However, some ideas and comparisons are under-developed or inaccurately described. For instance, the statement that 'the percentage of Australian women recorded the highest figures in all age groups except 15-24 age group' is slightly imprecise, as men were actually higher in the 25-34 bracket as well. Additionally, the phrase 'the percentage of women doubled the men with 52.5% and men with 39.5%' misinterprets the data, as 52.5% is not double 39.5%. Nevertheless, the core information is presented, fulfilling the basic requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay has a coherent overall arrangement, starting with an introductory paraphrase and an overview, followed by body paragraphs structured by age groups. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical and referencing is occasionally unclear. Transitions like 'Turning to another age groups' and phrasing such as 'Among people aged from 15 to 24 age group had the 52.8 % highest figures' result in awkward transitions and a lack of smooth progression. Paragraphing is used, but the internal logical flow within paragraphs suffers from repetitive phrasing and disjointed sentence structures, which prevents the writing from achieving a higher level of cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying basic concepts such as 'percentage', 'age groups', 'men', and 'women'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary and comparative structures, but this is accompanied by lexical inaccuracies and awkward word choices, such as 'women percentage in physical activity' instead of 'female participation rate' or 'percentage of women'. Spelling and word choice errors are present, for example, omitting prepositions or using incorrect word forms, but they do not severely impede overall communication, placing the response firmly at this level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty or incomplete. There are noticeable errors in grammar, such as missing prepositions in 'aged from 15 to 24 age group had', awkward phrasing in 'the next age group 25-34 the figure for women 48.9%', and incorrect subject-verb phrasing like 'Among 65 and over age group was older group'. While these errors do not totally obscure the meaning, they are frequent enough to cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a limited command of grammatical structures.
