Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features and making comparisons between men and women across the age groups. However, there are some inaccuracies in data interpretation. For instance, the overview incorrectly claims that the percentage of women was far more than men in all ages except young age, which contradicts the data for the 65 and over group where men are actually slightly higher, and overlooks the 25 to 34 group where men are also higher. Furthermore, specific data points contain minor inaccuracies, such as stating that the percentage for men and women at 65 and over was approximately 47%, whereas the chart shows 46.7% and 47.1% respectively. While key features like the highest and lowest points are identified, some trends are under-developed or lack full clarity, keeping the response at this level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The text presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs detailing the data. Progression is generally maintained through sequencing phrases like 'At a fleeting glance' and 'After this age'. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, with awkward transitional phrases such as 'Aged group with 45 to 54' and run-on sentences that link distinct thoughts without sufficient separation. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the dangling modifiers and abrupt shifts between data points. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion within the body paragraphs could be smoother to guide the reader effortlessly through the comparisons.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, attempting functional reporting terms such as 'percentage', 'decreased', 'rose', and 'declining'. However, there are noticeable word-choice and word-form errors that detract from precision, such as 'verical' (spelling), 'aged group' instead of 'age group', and awkward phrasing like 'rose a highest peak'. Less common vocabulary is attempted with limited accuracy, and some expressions feel unnatural or repetitive. While communication is not impeded, these lexical slips prevent the response from achieving a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting comparative structures and subordinate clauses. However, there are frequent grammatical errors in sentence construction, articles, and prepositions, such as 'percentage of Australian women are' (subject-verb agreement), 'in given year' (missing article), and '25 to 34 aged' (incorrect form). Additionally, run-on sentences like 'at age group with 15-24, there was highest percentage... that was 52.8%, the percentage of women was 47.7% respectively and it was followed by...' reveal weak control over punctuation and coordination. These errors persist throughout the text, though they rarely impede overall communication.
