Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 150 words, stopping abruptly at only 114 words. While the candidate attempts to summarise the main features by identifying the highest age groups for women and mentioning data for the 15 to 24 age bracket, the information is incomplete and cuts off mid-sentence. The overview is partially formulated, but key comparisons across the entire chart are missing due to the unfinished nature of the text. Consequently, the task is addressed only minimally and partially.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is an attempt to organise the response into logical paragraphs, beginning with an introduction and moving into body details. However, overall progression is disrupted because the text ends abruptly. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and sometimes inaccurately, such as 'Following with,' and referencing is occasionally unclear. Paragraphing is attempted, but the incomplete ending prevents full coherence from being established throughout the essay.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, with standard terms like 'proportion', 'bar chart', and 'age groups'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'percentum', 'percentile' instead of percentage, and 'men done' instead of men participated or undertook. These errors reflect a limited range and can cause some difficulty for the reader, fitting the descriptor for this level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The range of grammatical structures is very limited, relying heavily on simple sentences and direct reporting of data. There are frequent errors in verb forms, prepositions, and agreement, such as 'men done 52.8%', 'women proportion decrease steeply', and missing articles like 'in 35 to 44, 45 to 54, 55 to 64 age except from 15 to 24 where men was at peak'. These persistent errors and the lack of complex sentence control characterise performance at this level.
