Student answer (Band 5.5)
The bar chart illustrates the percentage of Australian men and women in different age groups who did regular physical activities in 2010.
Overall, the chart's x-axis shows the different age groups of people (men and women) and y-axis displays the percentage. It can be easily seen that young male (age group from 15 to 24) were more active in their physical activities with 52.8 proportion. Meanwhile, female seen more energetic in their age between 45 to 54 with 53.3 percentage.
In addition, 47.7% women do their regular physical activities in 2010. Moreover, 42.2% male and 48.9% female were active between 25 to 34 age group. In the age group of 35 to 44, 39.5% men and 52.5% women doing their work. In the older age group women can be seen doing more their activities physically with 53% as compared to men whom were only 45.1%. Likewise, 65 and over people of Australia 47.1% women and 46.7% men were doing their activities on their own.
In conclusion, in young age, proportion of men doing their physical activities were more than women. But at the end, this pattern flipped and women were more energetic by doing their physical works by themselves than men.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by summarizing the main features and making relevant comparisons between the age groups of Australian men and women in 2010. The overview is somewhat unconventional as it describes the axes of the chart rather than a clear summary of trends, but key data points are appropriately selected and reported, such as noting that young males aged 15 to 24 were the most active group overall, while females peaked in the 45 to 54 age bracket. However, some details are slightly under-developed or casually phrased, such as stating that women in the 35 to 44 group were "doing their work" rather than physical activity. Overall, the information presented is accurate and directly derived from the visual data, satisfying the requirements for this level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The text demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear division into an introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding summary. Progression is generally maintained through sequencing markers such as "In addition", "Moreover", and "In conclusion". However, cohesion can feel somewhat mechanical and repetitive, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the use of "at the end, this pattern flipped" in the conclusion. Paragraphing is present, but the body of the response could be grouped more logically to compare the genders across age cohorts more fluidly rather than listing individual data points sequentially, which detracts slightly from the overall flow and organization of the essay.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying the basic percentages and categories from the chart. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as "proportion", "energetic", and "pattern flipped", but there are notable inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word formation. Examples include referring to physical activity as "doing their work" or "their activities physically", and phrasing like "female seen more energetic" where both the verb form and adjective choice are awkward. While these lexical errors and awkward collocations do not completely impede communication, they restrict the response to a modest lexical band and highlight a need for greater precision and natural phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordinate clauses and comparative structures. There are, however, several grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include subject-verb agreement problems such as "young male... were more active", missing auxiliary verbs and incorrect prepositions like "in their age between", and awkward relative clauses such as "men whom were only 45.1%". Despite these noticeable errors in grammar and punctuation, the sentence structures remain sufficiently clear so that they rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the intended comparisons and data points without major confusion.
