Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by providing a clear overview and reporting the main features of the data. Key trends are highlighted, such as the peak in the youngest age group for men and the middle age groups for women, alongside relevant comparisons between genders. The data is accurately cited, matching the source chart well, such as the 52.8% figure for young males and the 53.3% peak for middle-aged females. However, ideas tend to over-generalise slightly in the second paragraph without fully exploring every nuance of the fluctuations, which keeps the response at this solid level rather than allowing it to reach higher development tiers.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

There is a clear logical organization and progression throughout the response. The essay begins with a suitable introductory statement, follows with a concise and effective overview paragraph, and then breaks down the body details logically by gender across age groups. Cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'It then fell sharply', 'After this', and 'Contrary to' are used with good effect to guide the reader through the comparisons, although there is a slight mechanical feel to how some transitions are introduced. Paragraphing is managed appropriately, grouping related ideas together into distinct, readable blocks.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and descriptive phrases such as 'rose steadily', 'fell sharply', and 'peaked at middle age'. However, there are some minor word choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as writing 'the physical activities in female' instead of 'among females' or 'for women', and spelling slips like 'where' instead of 'were'. These errors do not impede communication, but they reflect a vocabulary resource that has occasional awkward moments, preventing a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and varied time reference structures effectively. There are some minor errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing articles ('the youngest group'), awkward prepositional use, and unnecessary commas splitting subjects and verbs ('Before recovering while for the female'). Nevertheless, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the descriptions of the chart with ease.
