Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by presenting an overview and reporting the main features and comparisons from the bar chart. The overview successfully captures the general trend that women generally had higher participation rates, except in the youngest cohort. However, some parts of the data selection and interpretation are under-developed or contain inaccuracies. For example, the statement that women of 'almost every age group had more involvement... except women of age between 15 to 24 years' is slightly imprecise, as the final 65 and over group is nearly tied with only a negligible difference. Furthermore, while key figures are cited, the development of comparisons could be extended further to fully explore the data across all intervals.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response exhibits a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression, fulfilling the requirements for the given band and showing some elements of the next. The text is organized into logical paragraphs, beginning with an introduction and an overall summary, followed by body paragraphs detailing specific age groups. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'However', 'Similarly', and 'Moving further' are used to structure the text, though referencing and transitional phrases occasionally feel somewhat mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas, yet the flow between sentences could be smoothed to achieve a more natural and seamless progression throughout the response.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, demonstrating a sufficient range to convey the main features of the chart. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'subsequent', 'overtook', and 'surpass', but encounters some inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word form. For instance, 'everday' contains a spelling error, 'australian' lacks capitalization, and phrases like 'least percantage of physical activities were performed by men fell in the category' exhibit awkward phrasing and spelling. While these errors do not seriously impede communication, they reflect a limited control over precise lexical items, restricting the score to this level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like relative clauses and comparative constructions. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, but they rarely impede communication. Examples of grammatical lapses include subject-verb agreement issues, such as 'the percentage of men and women involved... were' (should be 'was'), and minor prepositional or article slips like 'men fell in the category' and 'in rest of the age groups'. Punctuation and spacing errors also appear around commas and capitalization. These mix of error-free sentences with recurring minor structural slips are characteristic of this band level.
