Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by reporting several key features and comparisons from the bar chart, such as the peak for young males at 52.8% and the older female trends. However, the coverage is partial and lacks precise selection across the entire chart. Some information is inaccurately reported or generalised incorrectly, such as stating that the percentages for males and females in the 45 to 64 groups remained the same at 53.3% and 45%, which misinterprets the distinct data points provided in the visual. The overview attempts to capture broad gender differences, but it is somewhat simplistic and contains awkward phrasing. To reach a higher standard, all major trends should be reported accurately without misrepresenting the data values, and the selection of features needs to be more comprehensive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The text exhibits some overall organisation, with an introductory sentence, a brief overview, and subsequent body paragraphs attempting to group data by age categories. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the logical flow is disrupted by fragmented sentences and poor grouping. Cohesive devices are often inadequate or inaccurate, relying heavily on repetitive phrasing like "in this group" and loose connectors such as "which were" and "but". Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within paragraphs is weak, making the progression difficult to follow at times. To improve coherence, the writer needs to employ a wider and more accurate range of cohesive devices, ensure logical links between sentences, and structure paragraphs so that information flows smoothly from one point to the next.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts some less common terms and phrases, such as "regular physical activity" and "age group," but struggles with word choice, word form, and collocation. Examples of lexical errors include "teenager boys," "percentile" instead of percentage, "ladies" for women, "dialy ecercise" (spelling and collocation), and the confusion between ratios and percentages. These noticeable errors and awkward phrasings sometimes cause difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their vocabulary range, use precise terms for statistical data, and eliminate spelling and word-choice mistakes by practicing standard academic collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing relies heavily on a limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at more complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are persistent errors in grammar, punctuation, and agreement throughout the text, such as "who did regular physical activity... but in adult age group female did," "The people whoes age lies," and "the person who is over 65, in age group both were remained same." These frequent errors can cause difficulty and distraction for the reader. To progress, the student needs to demonstrate a greater variety of complex sentence forms with good control over verb tenses, passive/active voice where appropriate, and subject-verb agreement, whilst significantly reducing basic grammatical errors.
