Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the chart’s subject and report several accurate figures, including 52.8% versus 47.7% for the youngest group and 52.5% versus 39.5% for ages 35–44. You also note the broad pattern that women were more active in four of the six groups. However, the response is incomplete: it stops partway through the comparison for ages 45–54 and does not report the remaining age groups or provide a sufficiently developed overview of the main trends. The required minimum of 150 words is not met; the response contains 128 words, with eight prompt words excluded from the count. To improve, complete the comparisons and summarise the contrasting male and female trends across all age groups.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response, moving from an introduction and overview to age-group comparisons. Connectors such as “overall,” “After that,” and “On the another hand” signal relationships between points. However, progression is difficult to follow because the comparisons are compressed into long, awkwardly connected sentences, and the final sentence is cut off. The sequence of figures is not consistently expressed, as in “42.2 and 48.9 with respectively,” so readers must work out which value belongs to which sex. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and details, and present each comparison in a clear, consistent order. More accurate linking and complete sentences would make the information easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentage,” “age group,” “regular physical activity,” and “ratios,” and the meaning is generally recoverable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive. For example, “ratios” is not the right term for the chart’s percentages, while “do more exercise” is less precise than language describing participation or activity rates. Spelling errors such as “reggular” and “tha” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, varied expressions such as “the proportion who exercised regularly” and “the figure for women was higher.” Check spelling and avoid repeating “age group” unnecessarily.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt to compare figures within sentences, but grammatical control is inconsistent and the range of sentence structures is limited. Errors in sentence formation and word order appear in phrases such as “the age group of 25 to 34 age group do percentage of 42.2 and 48.9 with respectively” and “women do more exercise tha the male by the ratios.” Articles, agreement, and punctuation are also unreliable; for example, the opening sentence has an awkwardly formed noun phrase, and several sentences run together without spaces after full stops. These problems sometimes make the comparisons hard to interpret. Build clearer sentences with a subject, verb, and correctly ordered figures, and use punctuation to separate each age-group comparison.
