Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the chart’s subject and include several relevant comparisons, including the female figures above 50% in the middle age groups and the near-equal rates among people aged 65 and over. However, the overview is unclear and contains a major contradiction: it first says women are more active in every age group, then notes that men lead among 15–24-year-olds. The final claim that women lead in all groups except “15 to 34” is also inaccurate, since men lead only in the 15–24 group. The response reports many figures, but the main trends are not consistently summarised. State the overall pattern accurately, then select a few comparisons that support it.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has an identifiable opening, a long body paragraph and a concluding sentence, and it generally moves through age groups in chart order. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the overview is mixed with detailed figures, and the final sentence repeats the overview while changing its meaning. Several sentences are joined in ways that obscure the relationship between ideas, such as “People from age group of 15 to 24 years where men had a percentage than women.” The repeated use of “There was” and “There are” also makes the account feel list-like. Separate a concise overview from grouped comparisons, and use clear links such as “By contrast” and “Meanwhile” only where they accurately signal the comparison.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportion,” “percentage,” “age group,” and “regular physical activity,” so the topic is usually clear. There is some repetition of “percentage” and “doing regular activity,” and several expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “follow regular physical activity” and “had a percentage than women.” The phrase “single group” is also less suitable than a direct description of the age category. These choices sometimes make comparisons harder to understand, although the key subject remains recognisable. Aim for precise reporting verbs and collocations, for example “the proportion who exercised regularly” and “men recorded a higher rate than women.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and longer sentence forms, but errors in sentence construction and agreement are frequent enough to make some comparisons difficult to interpret. For example, “Overall, women tend to do more … in every age groups” has an agreement error, while “People from age group … where men had a percentage than women” is not a complete, well-formed comparison. The final sentence, “It clearly shown that percentage … in more,” also has problems with the verb form and sentence structure. Articles and plurals are inconsistent, as in “age group of 65 and above” and “There are three age groups … which had.” Practise complete comparison clauses and check subject–verb agreement and article use.
