Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the chart’s subject and report several relevant figures, including the male lead among 15–24-year-olds (52.8% versus 47.7%) and the female peak of 53.3% among 45–54-year-olds. You also note that the sexes are nearly level in the oldest group. However, the response only partly summarises the main features: it lacks a clear overview of the contrasting trends, and the claim that women were more active overall is too broad without qualification, since men led in the youngest group. The statement that women in the 35–44 and 45–54 groups were more active than in any other age group is also imprecise; 45–54 was the female peak, but 35–44 was not. Compare the overall patterns more accurately and selectively, rather than listing age groups in sequence.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response follows the age groups in chart order, so the reader can generally connect the figures to the relevant categories. Paragraphing also separates the opening from the details. However, there is no distinct overview, and the progression is mostly a sequence of individual observations rather than a clear summary of the main patterns. Linking words such as “Moreover” and “Furthermore” are used, but they do not always show a meaningful relationship between the points. For example, the final paragraph moves from the 55–64 group to the oldest group and then to a broad conclusion without clearly synthesising the comparisons. Organise the response around an overview followed by grouped comparisons, such as the youngest group, middle-aged groups, and oldest group.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentage,” “age group,” and “peak,” and the reader can usually understand the comparisons you intend. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repeated or awkwardly formed, such as “physical activity is highier” and “women physical activities.” Spelling errors, including “poeple,” “prcentage,” and “highier,” are noticeable and reduce accuracy. Some expressions are also imprecise for describing data: “more high” and “from the women side” are not natural collocations. Aim for concise, standard reporting language and vary the verbs used to describe figures and trends. For instance, “women recorded a higher proportion” is clearer than “women physical activity is highier.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts some longer sentences and comparisons, but sentence structures are limited and errors occur frequently. Agreement is a recurring problem: “the physical activity of men are” should use a singular verb or be recast, and “women has done” should be “women did” or “women were.” The construction “In Australia, age between 15 to 24” is incomplete, while “both men and women physical activities prcentage is nearly equal” has unclear grammatical relationships. Comparisons also need more controlled forms, such as “higher than that of men.” Use complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement, tense, and comparative structures before submitting.
