Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the chart’s subject and include several relevant figures, such as men at 52.8% and women at 47.7% among 15–24-year-olds. However, the overview is not accurate: this youngest group has the highest male rate, but women’s peak is among 45–54-year-olds, not 15–24-year-olds; the lowest overall rates are also not simply in the oldest group. Some comparisons are too broad or unclear, including “39-42% are male and 48-52 were from women,” which obscures the differences between the two age groups. To strengthen the response, give a precise overview of the contrasting trends and select key comparisons, especially that men’s rate falls then rises while women’s rate generally rises before declining.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs of details. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with” and “Furthermore” help signal movement through the age groups. However, the progression is not consistently clear because several age groups and figures are combined in the same sentence, and the comparisons are difficult to follow. For example, “25-34 and 35-44 is the second spot accounted 39-42% are male” does not clearly show which figure belongs to which group. Some linking phrases also suggest rankings that are not explained. Organise the details into clearer comparisons, and use one sentence per meaningful trend or pair of age groups, with accurate references to each group.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentage,” “age group,” “accounted,” and “active,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are unnatural, which sometimes makes the meaning difficult to interpret. Phrases such as “the more doing the physical activity,” “the second least ones,” and “less from all over ages” do not express comparisons clearly. “Daily exercise” also changes the chart’s wording, which refers to regular physical activity. Aim for precise, conventional language for describing data, such as “participation rate,” “higher than,” and “the lowest proportion.” Check spelling and word forms, including “highest,” and avoid informal or vague expressions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts some longer sentences and uses basic structures to report figures, but the range is limited and complex attempts are often faulty. Errors in agreement and verb forms appear in examples such as “age group … were doing” and “45-54 and 55-64 age group people were.” Sentence construction is also unclear in “accounted 39-42% are male,” while missing or incorrect articles and punctuation make several clauses harder to follow. These problems can cause difficulty for the reader, even though individual figures remain understandable. Practise building accurate comparison sentences with a clear subject and verb—for example, “The male rate fell to 39.5% among 35–44-year-olds, while the female rate rose to 52.5%.”
