Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response includes several relevant figures and correctly identifies the male rate of 52.8% among 15–24-year-olds and the female rate of 52.5% among 35–44-year-olds. However, the overview is unclear and does not accurately identify the main pattern: women had higher activity rates in every age group except 15–24, while the male rate was lowest at ages 35–44 and the female rate peaked at 45–54. The final comparisons are also incomplete or inaccurate: the 55–64 figures are 45.1% for men and 53% for women, and the 65-and-over figures are 46.7% and 47.1%, rather than simply the same proportion. The report therefore selects some data but only partially summarises the chart’s key features.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to age-group details, and it uses a few linking expressions such as “Overall,” “However,” and “Interestingly.” However, the progression is not clear throughout. The overview is vague, and the detail paragraph moves through the age groups without grouping or highlighting the main comparisons. The 45–54 figures are repeated in two consecutive sentences, while the 55–64 group is not clearly identified at all. The final sentence combines the 55–64 and 65-and-over information, making its reference difficult to follow. Organise the body in a consistent sequence and use explicit age-group references to make comparisons easier to track.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses a small range of task-related vocabulary, including “proportion,” “percentage,” “age group,” and “physical activity,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, vocabulary is repetitive, especially the repeated phrase “who did physical activity,” and several expressions are unnatural or imprecise, such as “the lowest ratio of male” and “did exercise regular.” There are also word-form and spelling problems, including “Australia male,” “regualar,” and “femal.” Use standard collocations such as “the proportion of men who exercised regularly” and vary reporting language with “stood at,” “accounted for,” or “was recorded at.” More accurate word forms and spelling would make the data description clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts a few complex forms, including “who did regular physical activity” and the contrast introduced by “However,” but sentence structures are mostly repetitive and several are incomplete or poorly controlled. For example, “Overall, the highest percentage of female who did regular physical activities” has no main verb, and “52.8 percent of 15 to 24 age group of male who did exercise regular” lacks a clear grammatical structure. Agreement and article use are also problematic in phrases such as “the proportion of Australia male and female.” These errors sometimes make relationships between the figures difficult to understand. Practise complete subject–verb sentences, for example, “Among men aged 15–24, the figure was 52.8%,” and check agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries.
