Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the chart’s subject and make relevant comparisons, including the male peak among 15–24-year-olds and the near-equal figures for people aged 65 and over. However, the overview is not fully accurate: women’s highest rate is 53.3% among 45–54-year-olds, but the female figures are also high and broadly stable from 35 to 64, while the male rate falls and then rises. The claim that women have higher rates “as age increase” is too broad because men lead in the youngest group. Some figures and trends are omitted or unclear, and the final comparison of female rates is confusing. The response is 143 words, below the 150-word minimum; develop the overview and comparisons with a little more accurate detail.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic structure, with an opening, an overview, and paragraphs containing comparisons. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is organised. However, progression is limited: the discussion moves from the overall pattern to the youngest and middle groups, then repeats the over-65 comparison already made in the overview. Linking is also awkward or inaccurate, as in “As age increase from 15 to till 65,” and the final sentence is difficult to follow because the age range and the stated slight decrease do not clearly match. Use one paragraph for the overview and organise the details systematically by age group or by gender, avoiding repetition and making each comparison explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “percentage,” “age group,” “active,” and “slight decrease,” so the main topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “shows the highest percent,” “as compare to,” and “men is at top.” Spelling errors, including “physcial” and “receptively,” also reduce precision. Aim for standard chart language and check spelling carefully; for example, describe figures as “the highest proportion” and say one rate “was higher than” another. More precise verbs such as “declined,” “rose,” and “remained stable” would help you report trends without relying on repeated, general wording.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer comparisons, but control is inconsistent, particularly in sentences with several ideas. Errors include subject–verb agreement in “females … shows” and “female tends,” as well as the incomplete construction “As age increase from 15 to till 65.” Articles and plural forms are also often missing or incorrect, as in “between age group” and “men and women over 65 have almost equal percentage.” Punctuation is uneven, with missing spaces after commas and inconsistent capitalisation at sentence beginnings. These errors sometimes make relationships between figures hard to interpret. Practise accurate comparative sentence patterns, such as “The rate for women aged 35–44 was higher than that for men.”
