Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You include relevant figures from all six age groups and identify important comparisons, such as men’s peak of 52.8% among 15–24-year-olds and women’s peak of 53.3% among 45–54-year-olds. However, the overview is unclear and does not accurately summarise the main pattern: women were more active in every age group except 15–24, rather than simply in “most” categories. Some details are also imprecise. For example, “25 to 44” combines two chart categories, and the 35–44 comparison is not clearly set out as 52.5% for women versus 39.5% for men. Give a concise, accurate overview first, then compare the figures systematically.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has separate paragraphs and generally moves from an introduction to an overview and then to age-group details, so there is some organisation. However, the progression within the detail paragraphs is difficult to follow: the discussion jumps from the youngest group to 45–54, back to 25–34, and then to other groups. Linking phrases such as “On the other hand,” “Moreover,” and “Similarly” are used, but they do not always make the relationship between the figures clear. The final paragraph also leaves the comparison for ages 65 and over incomplete. Group the data in a consistent order or by meaningful patterns, and use clear references such as “women’s figure” and “the corresponding male rate.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “proportion,” “age group,” “percentage,” and “recorded,” and the reader can generally understand that you are describing chart data. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, including “daily exercises” for regular physical activity and “long gap” for a difference between rates. Spelling errors such as “excersises,” “precentage,” “diferences,” and “competetive” are noticeable and reduce precision. Some phrases, such as “male was featured” and “female were recorded total,” are also unnatural for describing data. Use standard chart language consistently, for example “the proportion of men” and “the rate among women.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts some longer structures, including clauses beginning “where” and “because,” but these are often incomplete or awkwardly formed. For example, “The age group from 15 to 24, where male group has been recorded…” is a sentence fragment, and “Also age group from 25 to 34 were recorded…” has an unclear subject and verb agreement. There are recurring problems with articles, plurals, and tense, as in “male was featured” and “female were featured.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation also make some comparisons harder to follow. Practise writing complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use straightforward past-tense forms such as “Men recorded 52.8%, while women recorded 47.7%.”
