Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main comparison—that women were more active in most age groups, while men led among 15–24-year-olds—and include several accurate figures, such as 52.8% for young men and 53.3% for women aged 45–54. This gives the response relevant coverage of the chart. However, the overview is broad and does not clearly summarise the full pattern: women’s rate rises to a middle-age peak before falling, while men’s rate falls to a low at 35–44 and then recovers. Some details are unclear or incomplete, particularly the final comparison, where the men’s figure is not reported. Make the key trends explicit and check that each comparison is stated precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs that broadly move through the age groups, so there is some organisation. However, progression is weakened by repeated or awkward linking, including “Overall” appearing twice and “From 35 to 44” followed by a long sequence of loosely connected points. Several references are unclear, such as “while has been increase more than any other period,” which makes it difficult to identify what is increasing. Group the data into a clear overview and logically ordered comparisons, and use linking words only where they show a precise relationship. Clearer sentence boundaries and references would help the reader follow the trends.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “percentage,” “physical activity,” “decrease,” and “increase,” and these help communicate the chart’s subject. However, the range is limited and several choices or forms are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning harder to follow: “men are dominent,” “women are more engage,” and “minimal increase” do not express the comparisons naturally. Spelling errors such as “peopotion,” “physicall,” and “noticiable” are also frequent and noticeable. Build a reliable set of chart-description collocations and check spelling and word forms carefully. More precise alternatives for describing rates and trends would make the report clearer and more appropriate to the task.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts longer sentences and comparisons, but sentence structures are often faulty, and errors frequently obscure relationships between the figures. Examples include “men having high percentage,” “women has increase,” and “men has also improve,” where verb forms and subject–verb agreement are incorrect. Articles and sentence construction are also problematic in “in one group age men are dominent over women.” Punctuation and spacing errors, including the run-on sequence beginning “In the next age group,” further reduce clarity. Practise accurate simple comparison sentences first, then combine them using controlled clauses—for example, “Women’s rate rose to 52.5%, whereas men’s fell to 39.5%.”
