Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You report most of the chart’s figures accurately, including the male peak of 52.8% among 15–24-year-olds and the female peak of 53.3% among 45–54-year-olds. You also identify the broad contrast that women were more active in most age groups, while young men exceeded young women. However, the overview is not fully accurate: men’s activity did not simply decline, as it rose from 39.5% among 35–44-year-olds to 46.7% in the oldest group. The phrase “proportions of women experienced quite rose” is also unclear, and the overview does not clearly summarise the age patterns. To strengthen the response, state the main trends precisely and compare the sexes across the age groups, rather than relying mainly on a sequence of figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph giving age-group details. This helps the reader identify the purpose of each section. However, progression within the detail paragraph is mostly a list of figures, with repeated transitions such as “In addition” and “However” rather than clear grouping or comparison. The final two age groups are not explicitly labelled in the sentence “53% of the women and 45.1% of the men exercised,” so the reference is less clear than it could be. Some linking also creates awkward or unclear relationships between ideas. Organise the details into meaningful comparisons—for example, the younger groups and the older groups—and use linking expressions only where they clarify the relationship.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant vocabulary for describing the chart, including “proportions,” “engaged in regular physical activity,” “decline,” and “participated.” The range is nevertheless limited, and several repeated or unnatural expressions make the report less precise. “Great proportions” is not an appropriate collocation for higher percentages, while “youngster men” and “youngster women” sound informal and are repeated. “Proportions … experienced quite rose” is difficult to understand because the wording does not express the intended trend naturally. Use standard chart language such as “the proportion was higher,” “the rate increased,” and “women aged 35–44.” Varying a small set of accurate terms would improve clarity more than using ambitious but unsuitable phrases.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses joined with “however” and “who,” and the main comparisons are generally understandable. However, grammatical errors occur frequently and sometimes make relationships unclear. Examples include “youngster men( with aged 15-24),” “Adult women with aged 25-34,” and “men with aged 25-34”; these age descriptions need a correct grammatical pattern, such as “men aged 25–34.” The overview phrase “proportions of men experienced a decline” also has an unsuitable subject–verb construction, and punctuation around “however” is inconsistent. Practise accurate age-group phrases and sentence patterns for comparing percentages, then check articles, prepositions, and punctuation when editing.
