Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response identifies the chart’s subject and attempts an overview, but several central comparisons are misreported, so the main features are not reliably conveyed. For example, it says men aged 45–54 reached 53%, the chart’s highest figure; in fact, that group is 43.1%, while women aged 45–54 are at 53.3%. It also reverses the 35–44 figures: women are at 52.5% and men at 39.5%, not the other way around. The claim that older men and women are both around 48.7% is also inaccurate: the figures for those aged 65 and over are 46.7% and 47.1%. Focus on accurate overall trends and verify each comparison against the chart.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic structure, with an opening, an overview, and further comparisons, and the response generally stays focused on the chart. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the age groups are not presented in a consistent order and several comparisons are repeated or confusing. For instance, the paragraph moves from the youngest group to 25–34, then 35–44, and later returns to 45–54 and older groups, while inaccurate statements make the links between ideas harder to track. Connectors such as “Although,” “Moreover,” and “At the last” are used awkwardly or do not clearly show the relationship between points. Group the data by age range and use simple, accurate transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses enough chart-related vocabulary to communicate its general subject, including “percentage,” “age group,” “accounted for,” and “proportion.” However, the range is limited and several repeated or unnatural expressions make the report less clear. Phrases such as “at the last in the graph,” “made up to,” and “covered a proportion of total” are not natural ways to describe chart values. “Daily workout” also changes the chart’s meaning slightly, since it reports regular physical activity rather than specifically daily exercise. Use precise reporting language consistently, such as “stood at,” “recorded,” “the highest proportion,” and “the lowest figure.” This would make comparisons more concise and appropriate to an academic chart summary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and longer sentences, but control is uneven, and errors in sentence construction and punctuation sometimes make relationships unclear. For example, “Although the men between 25 to 34 years old do less daily exercise than women” is a dependent clause presented as a complete sentence. In “Mature male adults are accounted for 52.5%, women are made up to 39.5%,” two clauses are joined without suitable punctuation or a conjunction. There are also problems with articles and agreement, as in “which is highest in the graph,” and inconsistent capitalization after commas, such as “Moreover, The.” Practise forming complete comparisons with accurate verb patterns—for example, “The figure for men was…, whereas the figure for women was…”—and check sentence boundaries.
