Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
This bar chart compares the propotion of Austrailian males and females across six different age groups. X axis representing age group while Y axis showing percentage of women and men doing regular physical activities in 2010 in Austraila.
The first highest volume of this in men is in the age of 15 to 24, which is almost 52.8% of total. Overall, women were generally more active than men, however men was more active in the younger age before coming to a decline. Women peaked in the age of 45 to 54 which is 53.3 from the total percentage.
The physical activity rate in men start from the peak and then gradually move downward from the 25 to 44, then moderately moves upward in the age of 45 to 54.
In the last stage men physical activity rate is almost same to the women as both become aged which is 46.7 in males and 47.1 in females.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the chart’s subject and give a useful overall comparison: women were generally more active, while men led in the youngest group. You also report the male high point and the female peak, and the final figures are accurate. However, the account is only partly developed: it omits the important female pattern of rising to the middle age groups before falling, and gives little comparison across the six groups. The claim that the male rate “gradually move[s] downward” from 25 to 44 is broadly right, but the subsequent rise continues through the older groups, not just to ages 45–54. Include a concise overview and select key figures to support both sexes’ trends.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic sequence: an introduction, a general comparison, and details about the male trend and oldest group. This gives the reader some organisation, and phrases such as “Overall” and “In the last stage” signal relationships between points. However, the progression is not fully clear because the female trend is mentioned mainly through its peak, while most of the detail concerns men. The opening sentence about the axes is also not developed into a useful comparison. Some links are awkward or unclear, particularly “The first highest volume of this in men” and “from the peak.” Organise the body by comparing the sexes within age ranges, and use clear references such as “this rate” or “the figure for women.”
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentage,” “age groups,” “peaked,” “decline,” and “physical activity rate,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, which makes parts of the report difficult to interpret. “Volume” does not describe a percentage, and “first highest” is an awkward way to identify the male peak. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “propotion,” “Austrailian,” and “Austraila.” Aim for precise, conventional language for describing data, and check spelling carefully. Repeating “age” and “physical activity rate” can also be reduced by using “group,” “figure,” and “participation rate” where appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast with “however” and a time relationship in “as both become aged.” Nevertheless, grammatical control is inconsistent, and several errors make the meaning less clear. For example, “X axis representing age group while Y axis showing” is a fragment, and “men was more active” has incorrect subject–verb agreement. In “The physical activity rate in men start … and then … moves,” the verb forms do not agree consistently with the subject. Articles and sentence construction also need attention in “in the age of 15 to 24.” Use complete sentences, keep verb tense consistent when reporting the 2010 data, and check agreement between each subject and verb.
