Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You cover the chart’s main comparisons and include accurate figures for all six age groups. The overview identifies the key pattern: men lead only among 15–24-year-olds, while women have higher participation in the other groups; you also note the near-equal figures among those aged 65 and over. The detailed paragraphs support this with relevant data, including the male low of 39.5% at ages 35–44 and the female peak of 53.3% at ages 45–54. Some descriptions are less clear or precise: “women were higher than the men” does not explicitly say their activity rates were higher, and the overview’s reference to “25 to 65+ age groups” is imprecise. A sharper summary of the overall trends would make the key features clearer and more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and two detail paragraphs. Grouping the figures by gender and age progression helps the reader follow the data, and sequencing phrases such as “Firstly,” “Secondly” and “after that” show an attempt to guide the reader. However, progression is sometimes mechanical, and several links are unclear or inaccurate. For example, “after decade another age group” does not clearly explain the move between age bands, while “on the other hand” is used where a straightforward comparison would be clearer. The overview also combines several points in a sentence that is difficult to follow. Use clearer topic sentences and connect comparisons directly, rather than relying on repeated sequencing phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “age group,” “highest,” “increased” and “slightly,” and the reader can generally identify the intended comparisons. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning difficult to interpret. Examples include “doing daily physical activity” for regular activity, “women were higher” for a higher participation rate, and “slightly minus 3%” to describe a decrease. Spelling errors such as “differance,” “decresed” and “incresed” also reduce accuracy. Aim to use precise chart language consistently, such as “the proportion who exercised regularly,” “fell” and “rose,” and check spelling before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the response communicates the broad comparisons despite grammatical problems. However, many sentences contain errors in verb forms, agreement, articles or sentence construction. For instance, “men and women who doing regularly physical activity” needs a finite verb and a more accurate structure, while “women were slightly rose up” incorrectly combines verb forms. In “both were have slightly differance,” the verb pattern is also faulty. Punctuation and capitalisation are inconsistent, particularly where a new sentence begins after a full stop. Practise forming clear comparative sentences with accurate past-tense verbs—for example, “the male rate fell to 42.2%, while the female rate rose to 48.9%”—before attempting longer constructions.
