Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You give a clear overview of the main pattern: women recorded higher activity in most age groups, men led among 15–24-year-olds, and the figures were close for those aged 65 and over. Most figures are reported accurately, including the male low of 39.5% at ages 35–44 and the female peak of 53.3% at ages 45–54. One factual slip occurs in the 55–64 comparison: the female figure is 53.0%, not 53.3%. Also, the 45–54 sentence omits the male figure, leaving that comparison less complete. Overall, the key features are selected and supported with data; checking each figure and completing comparisons would make the account more consistently precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a sensible overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs reporting age-group details. Comparisons are generally easy to follow, particularly the repeated use of “compared with” to contrast men and women. However, some linking and punctuation are uneven: “similarly” begins a sentence without a capital letter, and “Finally ,” has an unnecessary space before the comma. The sequence of age groups is logical, but the final paragraph’s 45–54 sentence is less clear because it does not identify whose 43.1% is being reported. Use consistent sentence openings and make each comparison explicit to improve cohesion and clarity.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of task-appropriate vocabulary, including “illustrates,” “percentage,” “physically active,” and “exercised regularly.” These choices communicate the chart’s subject clearly, and phrases such as “significant difference” help highlight a comparison. Some wording is repetitive, especially the repeated use of “figure” and “percentage,” while “did regular physical activity” is less natural than a concise collocation such as “were physically active.” The phrase “43.1% of participated” is also an inaccurate word choice/form that makes the sentence awkward. Varying reporting verbs and using more natural collocations would make the description more fluent and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including comparisons with “while” and “compared with,” and most of the information remains understandable. Some grammatical errors are present, however. In “The percentage of men and women were almost equal,” the singular subject “percentage” requires “was,” and “almost equal 65 and over” needs a construction such as “almost equal among those aged 65 and over.” The sentence “43.1% of participated” is missing a grammatical subject, and “the figure were” should be “the figures were” or “the figure was.” Capitalisation and punctuation also need attention after full stops. Proofreading agreement and sentence completeness would improve accuracy.
