Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the chart’s subject and give a relevant overview: women’s highest rate is in the 45–54 group, while men’s is among 15–24-year-olds. Most figures are reported accurately, including the male low of 39.5% at ages 35–44 and the female rates around 53% in middle age. However, the overview is limited and one comparison is unclear: “it was over then 52” does not specify that women’s figure for ages 35–44 was 52.5%. The response also misses the main overall pattern that women were more active than men in every age group except 15–24. Make this contrast explicit and describe the male decline and subsequent rise to present the key features more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic sequence, moving through the age groups from youngest to oldest, and paragraphing separates the overview from the details. Linking expressions such as “however,” “similarly” and “likewise” show an effort to connect comparisons. Nevertheless, the progression is often mechanical, and repeated openings such as “it was recorded” make the report difficult to follow. Some references are unclear: “it was the lowest recorded for ever” does not clearly identify the figure or group, and “in the similar age” is imprecise. Organise the body around clear male–female comparisons for each age group, and use direct references such as “the male rate” and “the corresponding female figure” to improve cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “proportion,” “age group” and “percentage,” and the reader can generally recognise the intended comparisons. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, including “female contain highest persentage,” “physical exercises daily” and “over then.” Repeated reliance on “recorded” also makes the description less precise. Spelling errors such as “austrlian,” “persentage,” “approxmately” and “additionaly” are noticeable and reduce control. Build a more accurate set of chart-description phrases, for example “the proportion of women,” “stood at,” and “the highest rate,” and check spelling before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer sentences and use basic comparison clauses, for example “while it was highest for men” and “while it was at over then 53.3 by the women.” However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently in sentence construction, articles, agreement and verb forms. Examples include “female contain highest persentage,” “it recorde at 46.7,” and the unclear construction “it was recorded around to 52.8.” Several sentences join multiple ideas with “and” without clear grammatical relationships, which can make the meaning difficult to follow. Practise accurate simple comparison sentences first, then vary them with controlled clauses using “whereas” or “while”; check that each sentence has a clear subject and correctly formed verb.
