Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You report figures for all six age groups and correctly identify the main gender pattern: men have the higher rate only among 15–24-year-olds, while women lead in every other group. Most figures are close to the chart values. However, the overview is unclear and does not state the key trend that women’s activity peaks in middle age while men’s rate falls before rising again. The claim that women were “the largest subset” is imprecise, and “a noticeable gap remained between the top and bottom ranks” does not clearly describe a meaningful comparison. Make the overview more specific and select the most important contrasts, rather than relying mainly on a sequence of individual figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic structure, with an opening overview followed by figures grouped into two paragraphs, and the age groups are presented in chart order. This gives the reader some sense of progression. However, the organisation is largely a list of data points, and the repeated frame “it was recorded … among men/women” makes the account mechanical. Connectors such as “similarly,” “on contrast,” and “likewise” do not always express the relationship between the figures clearly. The overview also does not guide the reader into the detailed comparisons. Group the age groups by meaningful patterns—for example, the early male lead and the later female lead—and use clearer comparisons to create a more coherent account.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant terms, including “proportion,” “age group,” and “approximately,” and the reader can generally identify the figures being compared. However, vocabulary is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, which makes parts of the report difficult to interpret. For example, “the proportion on australian public” does not describe the chart, and “women stood out indisputably as the largest subset” is not an appropriate way to report a percentage. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “pyysical,” “noticeble,” and “approxmately.” Use precise chart language such as “percentage,” “rate,” “higher than,” and “peaked at,” and check spelling and collocations carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to report comparisons using clauses with “while” and “but,” and most of the figures can still be understood. However, sentence structures are repetitive and often rely on the same passive pattern, “it was recorded … among.” Frequent grammatical problems affect clarity: “in the age of 15 to 24” uses an unsuitable construction, “this remained fluctuated” has an incorrect verb form, and “it was near to 47.7” has an awkward prepositional pattern. Articles, agreement, and singular/plural forms are also inconsistent, as in “among male” and “among female.” Practise concise comparative sentences, such as “Among 15–24-year-olds, the male rate was 52.8%, compared with 47.7% for women,” and check each sentence for a complete, correctly formed clause.
